Leisure and tourism
Whilst the Scottish Borders is viewed as an area of outstanding natural beauty, this is not its only charm. A colourful and turbulent history has shaped Borders life over the centuries, instilling a local pride and passion in all who live here.
Castles, abbeys and stately homes all have their tale to tell of the part they played in Scottish history. Museums give a more scottish government local view of Borders life, while the native culture of song, drama and dance fills theatres alongside works by international companies.
The Scottish Borders has a packed programme of events all year round. From large-scale international events such as the Melrose 7s to community events including Chinese New Year, there’s something for everyone.
